Finn Martens Art & Illu

Finn Martens (*1991) is an artist and freelance illustrator based in Kiel, Germany.

His practice ranges from commissioned work, digital illustration of every kind (record covers, book illustration, merchandise...) handpainted wood, paper, cardboard etc., small clothing lines, printmaking, posters, and logo-design.

Growing up in the 90´s in Eiderstedt, a peninsula in the district of Nordfriesland in the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein, Finn was always drawing and painting. On everything, with everything.  

Heavily influenced by american and franco-belgian comicbooks, cartoons of all kind, cereal-boxing design, action-figure packaging and skateboarding graphics he fed his creativity and imagination and never really stopped loving all of these topics.

They were only expanded by lots and lots more.

Take Hardcore Punk and Hip Hop/Rap with their beautifully colorful esthetic catalog and strong logos or the musicgroup that even combined it all: the Gorillaz. 

Take the different shapes, forms and visually challenging looks of the artforms of cubism, futurism and russian avantgarde. Only to mention the least. 

On the journey to professionalize his passion he organized two solo exhibitions in Kiel, Germany.

During the 2020/21 COVID-19 lockdowns he started a project called „lonely yet creative“ where he would paint live on the internet from his atelier. The viewers could send whishes via chat to change the painting spontaneously at any time. The finished painting could be won in a draw after the session.  

Since 2017 the self-taught artist Finn Martens officially works as a freelance artist and illustrator and does that with a great variety of clients from bands to start-ups, brands, organisations, CAU Kiel, an independent whisky bottler, a sustainable-pipe-building woodworker and many more. 

2019 he moved his creative work to the atelier of no collar siebdruck ateliergemeinschaft @ alte-mu kiel.
